As the Director of School Academic Support Services (SASS), Evelyn’s passion is supporting school students who have speech, language, literacy and executive function difficulties. Through the provision of services at schools, Evelyn is able to utilise curriculum materials in her therapy activities as well as embedding the therapy goals into the classroom teaching practice. Evelyn aims to empower teachers with the tools they need to help their students readily grasp the concepts of spelling, literacy and language.
With over 25 years of experience in delivering speech therapy within an educational context, Evelyn is committed to sharing evidence-based teachings that bridge the gap from research to practice. She has worked as:
- a speech-language pathologist in schools – both urban and rural
- the Speech-Pathologist-in-Charge of North Western Region for Education Queensland
- a Supervising Clinician at the University of Queensland Phonological Awareness for Literacy clinic.
Through her rural based positions, Evelyn developed a special interest in working with teachers to facilitate support and development in students that is integrated within the classroom and curriculum and not an add-on! Her practitioner research has focused on the development of appropriate, effective, curriculum based support for literacy and language development within classrooms.
Evelyn has lectured at National and International conferences in the fields of Speech Pathology and Education.
