Evelyn Terry created SASS in response to requests from parents and teachers for speech therapy support to be integrated within the curriculum. Requests were also made for more information and practical strategies to support students both before and during their school years.
SASS provides individual speech therapy services for students who are experiencing difficulty with the development of their speech, language, literacy and executive functioning skills. Services are provided at schools where possible, as this enables a coordinated apporoach for supporting your child.
In conjunction with the therapy services, School Academic Support Services is a provider of professional development in the fields of early language development (talking for learning), early literacy development especially phonological awareness as well as written language development. SASS aims to develop the knowledge base and skills of teachers and parents through the provision of workshops, talks, resources and consultative services. By providing evidence based professional development, tailored to suit your needs, SASS supports your school to deliver better education outcomes for students through high quality teaching and curriculum resources.
Every kindergarten, school, town and city has its own unique characteristics and SASS believes in tailoring the support to meet the specific needs of each client. All workshops are research based and the accompanying strategies / resources having been trialled in real classrooms over several years. Longitudinal student outcomes data provides an evidence base for many of the workshops.
SASS delivers support to you … workshops / talks / consultation visits … where and when you need it. The implementation of strategies, programs and processes following workshops can be daunting so SASS offers a range of ongoing support options such as email and mentoring visits.
