Evelyn Terry created SASS in response to requests from parents and teachers for more information and practical strategies to support students both before and during their school years.
School Academic Support Services (SASS) is a provider of professional development in the fields of:
- Pre-Prep/Prep language development (talking for learning)
- Prep/Year 1 literacy development (phonological awareness)
- Written Language development.
SASS aims to develop the knowledge base and skills of teachers and parents through the provision of workshops, talks, resources and consultative services. SASS supports schools to achieve better education outcomes through the development of high quality teaching and curriculum resources.
Every kindergarten, school, town and city has its own unique characteristics and SASS believes in tailoring the support to meet the specific needs of each client. All workshops are research based and the accompanying strategies / resources having been trialled in real classrooms over several years. Longitudinal student outcomes data provides an evidence base for many of the workshops.
SASS delivers support to you … where and when you need it. The implementation of strategies, programs and processes can be daunting following workshops, so SASS offers a range of ongoing support options such as email and mentoring visits.
SASS provides a Response to Intervention consultation service for school based administration teams interested in developing RTI processes within their school. The Director of SASS has developed and implemented an RTI process which was trialled, evaluated and modified over 5 years. The longitudinal data from the implementation of this process in a Prep environment has led to a robust understanding of the issues facing administration teams when they move towards RTI as a support process.
